Coachesaid.com Looks for the Best of SW Washington

According to Coachesaid.com, several regional football programs have the potential to big things this fall.

At the 4A level, Heritage made the list of teams to watch.

Union had but one loss and returns enough starters to think big at the 3A level. The poll has them second behind Bellevue, the team that defeated them for the State Championship in 2008.

Black Hills, Mark Morris and Tumwater are all ranked in the preseason top ten with Centralia receiving mention at the 2A level.

At the 1A level, Montesano is ranked 2nd while Castle Rock and Kalama are discussed in the latter half of the top 10.

The 2B level is a list dominated by District 4 teams including defending Champion Napavine. Joining the Tigers are Adna, Naselle, South Bend and Willapa Valley. Wahkiakum and Toutle Lake are also mentioned as possible forces within their leagues as well as the state level.

Wishkah Valley and Lake Quinault were high in the rankings at the 1B level.

Person Hired as Basketball Coach at Heritage

Trevor Person has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Vancouver’s Heritage High School. He was a player at both Ilwaco and Battle Ground.

As a guard, Person helped Battle Ground to two league titles and a district championship in 2002.

Person played basketball at Lower Columbia College, where he helped the Red Devils claim back-to-back NWAACC titles in 2003-04 and ’04-05. After LCC, Person played at San Diego Christian College.

Person takes over for Josh Downey, who led the Timberwolves to their first winning season and first district title in his only season at the school. Downey left for a job in Boise, Idaho.

White Pass/Morton to join Forces for Football

White Pass and Morton, two members of the C2B league will combine football players and be henseforth known as MWP. Between the two schools, there are about 40 football players and by an agreement with the Evergreen League, they could be eligible for the 1A State playoffs provided they win a significant number of C@BL games and defeat Toledo on September 4th and Onalaska later.

All of MWP's home games will be in Morton this season since there is major construction on the White Pass campus.

A New Schoo Year/New Sports Year in SW Washington

Your view matters greatly on this blog! While I cover 1A and 2B Schools in Southwest Washington, I don't have a good handle on 2A, 3A and 4A Greater St. Helens League action. Out goal this year is to be a one stop for scores and news in all high school sports in Southwest Washington. Each post will be news or the occasional discussion of achievements (positive only), comments can be more open.

The bottom line is that to keep a successful blog like this alive, there has to be many contributors! Join in and help make high school sport news available outside of their local communities!
